For the Carrier
Road carrier civil liability insurance (OCPD) is intended for carriers engaged in domestic or international road transport. The condition for taking advantage of this insurance is to have an appropriate transport licence, if required by law.
In the event of damage for which the carrier is liable, the insurer assumes the obligation to conduct the liquidation proceedings and pay the compensation due within the limits of the carrier's liability for the damage.
OCPD insurance is voluntary (no legal provision imposes an obligation on the carrier to have such insurance), but in practice, shippers and forwarders only cooperate with carriers who have an OCPD policy with a sufficiently wide scope of coverage.
